Regarding Ads and Donations

When I made my column Spyderbait, the results of which are posted here, people yelled at me because they thought it was immature to expect to make money from a web-site. I am no corporate nazi, but I disagree. I think it's perfectly fine to make money doing things people feel good paying for. So this page hopefully will disarm any hard feelings about my decision to put ads here, or my decision to ask for donations.

Why I Have Google Ads Here

Many people think Ads on the internet, or anywhere, are simply bad. I do believe that pop-ups should never have been invented. I think flash ads, or even many image ads, are a waste of bandwidth. But content-generated ads makes sense. The internet benefits from pages linking to each other, and AdSense conveniently generates links that tend to be interesting. For example, AdSense analyzed my Door to Nowhere report on a Nano Tactile Sensor and generated links to electronic components and industrial fibre-optic sensors. That's pretty cool stuff — someone might want to read about that. That's why I use AdSense.

Donations for Filmmaking

I make films. Filmmaking is very expensive. But I think I'm reasonably good at it, so I figure people may want to see my films. If you want to see my films, I encourage you to give me money, so I can make them.

I also accept donations simply because I don't like to charge too much for much of the work I've done. It's better to have a cheap film that people have seen than an expensive film that nobody wants to buy. I have never bought a short film in my entire life, and I probably never will, unless I've already seen it. Would you? That's the catch.

If you would like to make a donation and / or become a financier for my films, please contact me: mail2nathan.foster@yahoo.com.
